Whether in Graz on an enormous banner, or by means of text generators on (running) magnetized videotapes, or as an acoustic intervention in radio space, or in the night as an illuminated pictures... "Weiter" (translated: "Further") by Susanna Morgenstern has appeared, since 1993, in public in the form of motorized words, using each respective media as a vehicle:
A word taken from colloquial language describes a principle, presents its own representation and is, as a word, a system for presentation, theoretical papers and practical conversion.
For the viewer, agitated by lack of direction and by the spatial-temporal potential, "Weiter" proves to be a grateful object for ambivalent reactions, for it fulfills the function of a mirror; "Weiter" has no content, can however, assume any content. According to each medium - according to each medium used - observer and observed change their roles, the play between authority and resistance continues, an accordance with the word, "Weiter (Further)".
In its ambiguity it shows a complex system, which is determined by imperative, comparative, space and time. In its application influence and effectiveness are rehearsed (Susanna Morgenstern). In the video: "Weiter", which represents the first medial conversion of project in progress, the quality of the medium video, is tested: the word is on the display, the tape continues to move "Weiter ". Here the discrepancy between the situated word: " Weiter ", the/ those meaning(s) of the words and the moving tape are at the disposal of the viewers, who continue to observe the video signal "Weiter " via display. The principle that the pieces are never repeated lies in the nature of Morgenstern's projects. The most diverse accumulated aspects of the word "Weiter" have a specific position.
