Postkarten   Austria   1991 - 1997

Karl-Heinz KLOPF

The video shows postcards falling onto a neutral surface, "hit" by the palm of the artist's hand. The motives cover a peculiar spectrum: the history of art, alpine views, starry skies and ready-mades alternate; we detect Monroe, Buddha, Giacometti...

All are caught, discontinued, stopped, delayed by K.H. Klopf's hand, pressure is provided: the slap in the face to the postcards permits various associations. The rhythmic structure produced by the different acoustics, the hand plus postcard on the desk top, possibly remind us of a rapid, never ending game of cards, which keeps the individual auras sequential, or making Karl-Heinz Klopf's postcard archive into a Laporello.
